My @rustlang discoveries from the weekend:
• rust is neat
• the different types of pointers are a bit confusing at first (coming from C)
• crates·io has potential, but *way* too many crates require the nightly compiler (and therefore are much harder to justify using)

Maybe I just stumbled into a clique full of deps on nightly, but here are some: • rustfmt-nightly (strongly suggested by rustfmt, without any indication that the “-nightly” refers to rustc and not rustfmt) • interval • char_set • gcollections • rocket

It would be awesome if the web UI had a “nightly required” warning so I don’t waste time figuring out if the crate API is useful only to be disappointed by the build blowing up.

Also so many “do cool thing with rust” tutorials start with “rustup nightly”. Anyway, still a cool language and I’ll continue playing with it :)

Yeah, the most cutting edge things are gonna use cutting edge things. Hard to avoid! We’ll get there over time. Most of the ecosystem works on stable. But then you run into one thing...
