It seems like @rustlang, more than any other language I use, has a ton of dependencies that *require* you use the nightly release channel (rather than stable).
Anyone know why that is? I read “nightly” as “use at your own risk” so it seems weird, but maybe that’s not accurate?

This indicates to me that maybe Rust isn't very stable yet? Could be wrong, not really involved with it, just an outsider's perspective.

That’s the assumption I would normally make as well, but, from the outside looking in, Rust SEEMS pretty stable at this point, which is where my confusion comes in.

Oh yeah, interesting. I will watch this thread for hopefully more informed replies.

Nightly for Rust means more "what's new and upcoming" and less "unstable". Each PR is thoroughly tested, making nightly stability similar to releases. Curious, what kinds of crates do you see requiring nightly?

I feel like I see it less often with crates than I used to (although I do remember seeing it with a number of crates a while ago). These days it seems to be mostly tooling-related. Things like clippy, rustfmt, racer maybe?

Tooling often is; we’re working on it!
