Rust has a `repr(packed)` for structs, and you can convert arrays or slices using std::mem::transmute, but this is considered very unsafe. Still, if you know what you're doing and you need it for e.g. interop, it's doable in the same way as C.
what are the limitations of the types allowed in #[repr(packed)]? i haven't written Rust for a long time
if you only allowed certain primitives, it would be relatively safe (as long as you don't take references to fields). but if your fields can have undefined values...
I'm pretty sure #[repr(packed)] just squishes everything together. Should work with every fixed size type I believe. The transmute is the really dangerous bit. Things like enums and Option<NonNull> Option<&u8> can become quite scary. (disclaimer: not an expert)
