"We understand that not everyone wishes to switch to Discord for many reasons". So, why using it and worst forcing people to use a close source software to join the official channel? It's not like there's no other option out there.

It is still the best choice. No choice will make everyone happy.

I've known this was coming for a while, but it's still disappointing. I'd prefer standards.

No Discord, please. 1. Closed source. 2. No clients for "less mainstream platforms". 3. Not customisable and high resource usage client. Here are some other relatively good options, used by other well known open source projects: ° Matrix ° Telegram

Also Gitter (
@gitchat) is likely a reasonable alternative for software projects like this. It is also open-source, seehttps://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitter/webapp/ … - 3 more replies

A usability downside to Discord is that their clients have very low contrast with little customization options (dark or light). It’s difficult to read (and probably more so for folks with worse vision than myself). Not something y’all can control, but worth considering.
