@rustlang why is rust and tools rustup+cargo+rustc so hostile to cross toolchain? there are target, toolchain and sysroot to specify... but needs .cargo/config link; still nothing works!!! tried xargo; may have scr3wed things up more... if you try GoLang and it Just Works :-p
Most of the time, you should only need a target, and maybe a linker! We integrate with the host system more deeply than Go does, so it’s a harder problem for us

don't mind lots of moving parts, but; like all opensource too much/little documentation (recommendations) out of date...looks like there are a couple ppl outside http://rust-lang.org trying to solve cross-compile ease of use. It's especially difficult with a windows host :-p

Have you tried cross compiling with WSL? That's what I do and it worked quite nicely for me
