Compiling research tools written in C++... So much pain from autotool, configure, OS differences.
I am hoping to write my own projects in @rustlang. Rust and Cargo make so much of this disappear!

I'm dubious that any one build tool is the magic bullet, but I'd be delighted to be proven wrong!

Some key points: 1. Cargo strongly suggests a standardized workflow with declarative configuration. 2. Accessing system libs is encapsulated by the crate to use them (rather than your own project’s configure script in C land).

Yeah, ok. Now try to do something like generate a rust source file via a python script and have cargo run that script, but only when necessary.
