Date column changes into a number halfway through the file. The number is Excel's internal days-since-1900 value.

My COVID tracker site is currently not updating because there is a (presumably Excel-related) error in one of the NHS's CSV files...

At some point we should probably work out why random nerds on the internet seem to have consistently been months ahead of prevailing public health advice in this pandemic.

I ordered a pulse oximeter for my first aid kit on March 16, 2020, but apparently this is news now.

Periodic reminder that all models are wrong. There's literally a Wikipedia page.

Obviously not blaming anyone for missing December data in REACT (the survey is run in separate rounds, weeks apart), but that feels like rather a major limitation in this particular case. The modelled increase that continues into Jan could simply be the result of doing this:

One thing I didn't fully appreciate is that because COVID cases in older adults have peaked later and are falling slower, the lag between the overall peak in cases and the peak in deaths will be longer. Deaths are going to keep climbing.

This is what it looks like now. It puts the peak daily deaths at 1150 on the 13th - a good portion of those were reported today I think.

And I've just added the trajectory needed to vaccinate 15 million people by mid-Feb. Also today's numbers are now up.

I'm going to end this thread with a statement that feels like it can't be right, but on the basis of the data and conversations with sources, I believe it is justified The government is preparing to under-promise and over-deliver on vaccines There, I said it

This would be straight-up disastrous for the US pandemic response. I’m no fan of Palantir, but the HHS tracker is *the* best data set on the pandemic. Killing it now would be like closing your eyes while trying to take a highway exit:

This even conflicts with what Chris Whitty was saying in the press conference they're reporting on. So much unnecessary confusion.
