I love California because you are more likely to be judged on you accomplishments, rather than your pedigree. Obviously a gross generalization, but more important than the weather for me...having less traditional hierarchy leads to innovation and reinvention and creativity.

I'm starting a thread with quotes from Jerry Ravetz's amazing book "Science and Its Social Problems" (1971), which I believe has not gotten enough attention from the current scientific community, as it is still **so** relevant today.

At some point I’ll do a longer post about using twitter as an exposure tool for confronting anxiety. In the meantime, to everyone who’s lurking, but too afraid to tweet: Do it anyway. Keep trying. Find your voice. You have things to say that are worth hearing.

Reminder: opposing racism doesn’t require you to pretend that there’s no such thing as human ability, that IQ tests have no validity, or that genes don’t matter for human individual differences. Repeating easily-disprovable talking points helps no one.

When research makes mistakes, even blatant ones, it’s almost impossible to set the record straight. and I discuss this in a new op-ed in Science needs to do better.
