When Google Now was announced in 2015, there was an overwhelmingly negative response from tech media leaving the keynote. "This is really creepy, right?" was on repeat in the press lounge. Today, those same people criticize Apple for being so far behind Google Assistant.

It's also easy to see the types of businesses they described using it for (small or independent, no online booking, service industry) embracing it if it can drive them more appointments or customers.

Until the secure online system came online, I 'talked' to a crude robot for my Pharmacy. It would call when I needed a refill. It would suggest, have me confirm, and have me select a pickup time. Love the new system, but I *far* preferred the robot over me calling them & waiting

I was impressed with Duplex. I can see why they've let other apps on back burner. Duplex is legit.

Nobody criticizes today's robo callers as being creepy or unethical. Duplex is years ahead but today's calls are still bots trying to "trick" you. Technologically Duplex is cool at. As a service I currently dgaf. I have little faith this will launch period, let alone as demo'd.
