And it was STUPIDLY DANGEROUS back when Google did it, too. This is such an awful idea.
I agree with you 100% that it’s a terrible idea. Even dumber baked in at an OS level.
As the old adage goes: if they have physical access to your device, you’re screwed anyway.
Don't need physical access, just a good zoom lens.
Do many people put their router in the window?
Anecdotal, but I can walk through my neighborhood right now and point out 15 routers I can see from the street.

It's not sitting in the window, it's just visible from the window. Lots of big bay windows around here.
