And it was STUPIDLY DANGEROUS back when Google did it, too. This is such an awful idea.
One would hope most people change the password. But unfortunately they don’t 
They sure don't, and this enables really terribly security practices. Snap a photo of the code and share with all your friends! Ugh.
I agree with you 100% that it’s a terrible idea. Even dumber baked in at an OS level.
