The cynic in me is already wondering how many account migrations they'll botch and how much hardware they'll deprecate as a result.

I think that assumes the intent is integration on that scale, which I'm not convinced is the case? Fitbit as a brand is extremely valuable, it seems way more likely that improving that brand position is more valuable than integration.

I wish I shared your enthusiasm. :/

There is also this sort of looming shadow in the back of my mind which fully recognizes piling all of these resources into one or two baskets stifles innovation and kills niche features. And that has the potential to deeply harm the ecosystem as a whole.

Couldn’t Fitbit ecosystem be applied to whatever watch Google is working on next, on the back end? Next year?

Maybe some base level integrations, but I think the bigger play is building on the Fitbit brand, like Google did with Nest.

Given Google's history with hardware, you're not a bit dubious of this transaction? I mean, yes, Google Home and Pixel phones have been awesome but Wear OS (not hardware, I know) and many other hardware disappointments make me a bit cautious of this.

Kind of a different world with Osterloh at the helm, can’t really compare imo
