there's an intentional absurdity to this, but there's a grain of truth to it even in 2019. the majority of people have multiple opportunities throughout the day to plug in their phone, so is it really critical to go from wake to sleep without a single second of charge time?

The majority of office workers, maybe. People who work in warehouses, outdoors, maintenance/janitorial, students with a full class load... your use of the word majority here is broken.

There's at least eight hours between driving sessions for those people, usually closer to nine. That's pretty much exactly when reviewers are saying these smaller Pixels are dying. Nobody wants battery anxiety all day every day. This line of thought is bad.
