Andy Rubin was paid 90 MILLION DOLLARS by Google as severance following sexual misconduct allegations. It doesn’t matter what the new Essential Phone looks like or does, as long as he’s in charge. That’s it. The end.

With all due respect, this is what is wrong with cancel culture. Sure, he was accused of doing a shitty thing. Whether or not it is actually true, it shouldn't detract from the work of the good people under him, who are putting their time and effort in to making something great.

That sure is one way to absolve any leader of scrutiny.

It is not absolving a leader of scrutiny, it is giving credit to the people who put their hearts into making this. There is more to a company than the one guy at the top. Don't dismiss a product solely because that one guy is a shitty person. That's disrespecting work of others.

I agree with that second statement. If a company is more than one person, why does he need to be in charge? Why not put someone else in charge who does not abuse their position of power?

No disagreement from me. My initial reply was simply going after Russell's notion that you shouldn't care about the product because Andy Rubin is a bad person. There should absolutely be someone different in charge of the clear talent over there. I love the look of this phone.

This isn’t a big company. Rubin is very much the guiding force here. It’s not like HTC or something. Take a look at the structure there. Replacing Rubin folds this organization
