For as long as I can remember, every trip through airport security has been an ordeal. I see many people go through the scanner without issue, and then I go through to see all the alarms go off. Private booth pat-downs, usually involving multiple TSA agents, has been common.

After the weight loss, I thought I was free from this. Last year I excitedly went to the airport and was crushed when the same damn thing happened again. I had lost all this weight, but the excess skin was still setting off the same warnings.

Today, for the first time I can remember, I went through airport security in under five minutes. The scanner revealed no issues, and I just passed right through. No warnings. No angry people in a now clogged line behind me. Step in, step out, done.

I didn't expect this to hit me as hard as it has. I damn near burst into tears as I stuffed me laptop back into my bag. This is a relatively small thing, but it's years of stress off my shoulder and now I get to come to the airport WAY later than I usually would.

I had to explain to the friends I was going a trip with that I always set the scanner off and would needed to be pat down and they thought I was joking. Humiliatingly on same flight the attendant wouldn’t hand me the extender when I asked politely for one when boarding.

Instead she sneered that she knew what I needed & would bring me one. She waited till they were making announcements. I was about to panic about explaining my lack of belt to a different attendant when she basically held it aloft and walked down the aisle asking if I needed it.
