A very strange narrative I keep seeing in Marvel fan circles is that "Warlord" Thanos from Endgame grew and learned and changed to become the more tempered "Crusader" Thanos from Infinity War and it's worrying people can't accept they're the same person. spoilers i guess

Exactly. I feel like there's this push to make every "sympathetic" villain a good person who was misguided (N'Jadaka is a GREAT example of that). But no. You can be just straight up evil and say good things. The whole of who you are, not just the words you say, is what matters.

Doctor Strange touches on this with "I think you'll find our will equal to yours" in that Thanos doesn't often find strong opponents which believe strongly they MUST be right because he doesn't often need to explain himself when conquering a world. He's already decided.
