"sry boss i'm running late bcz i got into an internet slap fight with a systemd developer that was personally offended that i hate systemd" tbh i'm running late because i'm so nauseated from meds that i can't hardly move, but the systemd thing is a lot funnier.

i've been using video games to train my eyes to not use peripheral vision as much when trying to pick up details (it helps with the blindness thing). this is from the stream last night. it's going well. :) on a 24.5" monitor, able to follow where the cursor needs to go w/my eyes.pic.twitter.com/AYjvPtshj7

it's really neat thinking about how we can use video games to change the way our brain interprets data. but this is also a year of practice. :P

I can't stop watching. Was this something you assembled on your own, or were you consulting with a doctor?

oh, i was in the ER a week ago. bp went from completely normal to stroke levels in a few days, and it messed up my vision pretty badly. grey spots for up to a year. dr was like "just deal with it" - but i've been training my response time with this game. seemed worth a shot.

FPS is out, but something like this is useful because there are different ways to focus eyes to read the maps. i used to go with just using peripheral vision in different corners of the screen. moving eyes that quickly to pick up detail is a lot harder to get used to, but worth.

That makes a lot of sense. As you've been training your eyes, have you seen any difference in reading speed? Or is that too different?

i've only ever known how to speed read. :( i read half a line at a time, but unfortunately the biggest grey spot is directly to the right of whatever i'm looking at. it has made reading incredibly slow and tedious. bigger text oddly helps because brain fills in the blank space.

That sounds deeply frustrating, which really makes your internal problem-solving that much more impressive from my perspective.
