At $199, the Pixel Slate Keyboard is a pricey accessory. But the design, engineering, and the generous trackpad make it stand out from Apple's iPad Pro keyboard. Take a look and see if you agree. #madebygooglehttps://www.aboutchromebooks.com/news/first-look-video-google-pixel-slate-keyboard/ …

It seems like Google designs the Pixel laptop/slate line for its own employees, then makes some extra and sees how many people are willing to pay rather high prices for them. Is there really a significant market for $600+ Chromebook tablets beyond G's engineering departments?

I hear you. But let me answer your question with a question. ;) Is there a market for $1000 iOS tablets? The answer to that one is yes. So I think Google is trying to expand the Chromebook / Chrome OS market with different form factors, features and performance.

Also important to see the larger trend these machines have created. Dell, HP, and others have slowly started testing the higher-end ChromeOS world and seem to be happy with the approach so far.
