Honestly I bet those are just "art" designed to let staff know if you, the meat human, are standing in the proper zone that the headset was set up for for your demo, is all. I suspect it's more for humans to know you're in the right zone, not the headset :)
That makes sense. We meat humans are notoriously unreliable.
I could see it as a bit of help for tracking in what is not a typical environment with a lot of moving bodies along with flashes and ir rangefinders from all the recording gear.
