Every time, and I do mean every. single. time. I go through airport security, I'm stopped for an extra pat down. The backscatter scanner highlights my midsection in bright yellow and red, so I have to step aside for someone to check me out.

I know why this happens. The excess skin under my shirt causes a radically different temperature from the rest of my body, which is a red flag to the body scanner. I know this pat down is coming. I know the arm movements and instructions I need to follow to make this go quickly.

My calm demeanor and ability to "assume the position" without being told actually alarms some TSA agents. Today, one of them called for assistance because he had never seen anything like this before. A supervisor came to observe, and the spectacle grew.

When the pat down is complete, they swab your hands. I usually use the time the machine takes to process the swab to explain why this is happening. It helps calm everyone down usually. Today the agent seemed annoyed I'd wasted his time. Like he was upset he hadn't found a bad guy

Shit like this is why I am ALWAYS at the airport way earlier than I need to be, and a big part of why I can't wait to have this skin removed.

Usually when I explain why, everyone is super chill. On the way here the guy was real understanding and supportive of the weight loss. Dog the TSA Agent over here seemed like he wanted some action.
