So is platform holders taking 30 percent cuts. That's massive. One of the supposed perks of Android is the openness to support things like this. I get the security concerns but 99% of people never stray from the Play app anyway in the US. 3rd party stores common elsewhere.

There's a reasonable conversation to be had about whether that 30% cut is actually worth it.

It recently took google two weeks to remove a fake banking app which imitated the real one, stole credentials, which the thieves used to steal real money from people’s bank accounts. Play isn’t very safe, it’s garbage in fact.

Good move. Finally someone has a platform strong enough to not be charged 30%.

But if this gets Google to reduce its 30% cut, isn’t that a good thing?

Hey Russell. Is this your first time using an Android phone? You need to manually approve APK installations. They can't be installed in the background without manual approval. You can't even install APKs if you have any overlays running. I expected more from Android Central.

They will lose as much by people not downloading it as they would have by Google taking the 30% cut

I disagree....Epic games doesn't stand to lose subscribers in as much as they risk the potential expansion of their market...completely different phenomenons
