The BBC's tech correspondent symbolises the people at that formerly public service in his sneering, middle-class disdain for anyone he considers is beneath him . Ironically , he is the one with lack of any vision or strategic knowledge to see what technology future really means.

This evidence to the Treasury committee on cryptocurrencies makes interesting reading - though one witness makes a lot more sense than the others.

This thread started with an interesting and mostly polite debate about Bitcoin energy use. As you can see, things have gone downhill...

That is, cryptocurrency mining uses energy that ought to be used elsewhere to offset more polluting processes, not to produce speculative instruments of somewhat dubious societal value.

Feeling guilty. Just given short shrift to PR selling dodgy survey whose trump card was that the research was done by a think tank the econ world sees as pretty dodgy. "Useful feedback", he said.

This is fake. That should go without saying. And the original poster should be ashamed not to have deleted it.

Actually those FACTs are pretty hard to verify, hydro plants are a limited resource, and there are reasons why actual energy researchers don't treat energy systems in such simplistic manner. If crypto uses up hydro electricity, the same hydro cannot be used to displace coal.
