1/ What bothers me is that people seem to think that white-nationalism and nazis are on the rise. I think the opposite.
Ugh turns out you're wrong! I know you let quality data inform your opinions, and hope the FBI is a sufficiently credible source for youhttps://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2017/11/13/hate-crimes-in-the-united-states-increased-last-year-the-fbi-says/ …

I do indeed like "quality data". This is a good example where quality original data get's twisted to satisfy an agenda. I went to the FBI's website and graphed the data to give a better perspective:pic.twitter.com/P9BLc7NUtR

What you see when you graph the data is natural fluctuations around a fairly steady number. Sure, it's an increase, but tiny, within the norms, not indicative of a trend.
-
What the article does is cherry pick as many years as it could to show an "increase". What the article didn't do is put this into context over the last several years, or the last decade.
-
I hope now you'll agree that, as far back as we can go on the FBI's website (2010), there hasn't been a meaningful change in hate crimes?
-
The URLs for 2009 and 2008 were off, by I figured out the scheme and went back 20 years. Please describe how you think hate crimes are on the rise. With data.pic.twitter.com/OBlepxsSOk
-
Another description of the data "Hate crimes are down 20% over the last 20 year average". I hope you trust the FBI as a reliable source.
-
Yes, and that the recent 5-year stagnation in hate crimes is an unfortunate break from the decrease seen over the preceding 15-years :)
