I’m gonna be really pissed if after all of this Bran is the nominee.

My 11 year just nearly had a heart attack when he saw the exit polls in Iowa saying health care was the number one issue. “Not climate change?” he moans. “It’s like the the house is on fire and all people care about is doing renovations.”

Remember the Fukushima nuclear disaster? Well, one consequence is that Japan is now building lots and lots of coal-burning power plants. By

Now this is just one proposal, from the minority party in the chamber. And of course appropriations happen every year, so even if this passed one year, the funding could be reduced the next. But it’s a promising sign of support for US fusion energy! (7/7)

The non-ITER part of the budget would stay mostly flat until ITER’s first plasma, at which point the domestic program would be ramped up significantly as ITER funding ramped down (possibly for NTUF construction?) (5/)

I’m not sure they thought it through in this much detail, but I think this kind of funding could suggest an increased US scientific presence amongst the ITER team, which would be a positive development (4/)

It would encompass half of the $970M Fusion Energy Sciences budget in 2025, when the major construction phases are scheduled for completion and the "first plasma” milestone is reached. (3/)

This is what the proposed funding profile would look like, adjusted for 2% annual inflation. I’ve broken out the ITER project, which would grow dramatically through the primary construction phase. (2/)

House Republicans, feeling pressure to propose doing something about climate change, have put forward a plan to pour money into basic research through DOE’s Office of Science, including Fusion Energy (1/)

The has been really disappointing in recent years, here siding with natural gas producers (IPPNY) to block clean energy infrastructure. Old school environmental orgs need to shift gears from "stop things from being built", and quickly. The status quo is unacceptable!

Jill Lepore writes about the last time democracy nearly died all over the world and almost all at once, in 1930s, and what we can learn from the people who worked to fix it.

Iowa's biggest newspaper endorses , specifically citing her aggressive stance on climate change as part of the justification. It's about time that this became a top issue!

This is the fundamental challenge of our times: Can environmentalism pivot 180 degrees to go from a movement of stopping things to a movement of building things?

It is *crazy* that such a small, unrepresentative sample of the electorate has such a huge say in determining who becomes the most powerful person in the world

In 2 years the scooter industry has added max speeds, restricted/banned zones, verification of proper parking, etc. The auto industry has had 130 years and been required to do none of that.

At the root of all our transportation problems - our bus operator and mechanic shortages, crush-loaded BART trains, jammed highways - are our failed, exclusionary housing policies
