A while ago I quit various social media platforms, gaming groups and technical IRC channels citing grounds of ill health. Twitter, email and my blog is all I use now. I have decided today to write why:

Dr. Seuss has been dead for nearly 30 years. In a sane world, all his books would be in the public domain.

Must be mad. Just ordered a LG 55" OLED 4K TV. Wife happy - current 51" plasma HD will go into the bedroom. Kids happy - Netflix 4k means more devices at the same time. Me happy - ESO 4K on stadia ;) Now if only XBOX X (or even PS5) was available to actually buy ......

13 Beta1 is out. Shame it still cannot detect socket buffer overflows so important userland messages such as "carrier detected, you may now configure your interface" or "I tried to log something important, but couldn't" get lost.

When will vendors ever use correct encoding in DHCP options? Do they not read RFCs? RFC5986 sections 3.2, 3.1 and RFC1035. HINT: It's not a plain string

Have to drive to another hospital for a blood test as my local one has no internet and cannot access what bloods they need to take. You would have thought the would have failover implemented for this.

The hardest part about solving software issues isn't writing the patch. It's getting upstream to actually do something about it.

on a lightly loaded NetBSD system, compute bound code is 10%+ faster than on a Linux box with same CPU. One big difference, the number of involuntary context switches is much higher on Linux - maybe due the hundreds of kernel processes in Linux.

Anyone know much about gcc or clang ASAN? I'm struggling to get it to debug dhcpcd a deliberate leak with privilege separation enabled even if I disable any resource limits and/or sandboxing. Works fine without privilege separation code enabled, but that's sucky.

Next NetworkManager release will support dhcpcd-9.3.3 and newer! Now you have no excuse to use the most secure DHCP client ever on Linux again :) (Aside from a lack of DHCP6 support which I will work on soon)

So my dead ERLite just resting! A dodgy AC adapter was the real issue and it appears to be a common issue with using cheap parts. Please sort this out Ubiquiti - don't let your quality devices suffer from poor power supplies!

Mini review of my new USG router to replace the broken ERLite. TL;DR - it's nicer, easier to setup and integrates nicely with the Unify Controller but avoid the beta screens.
