  4. Legendary editor Matt O’Connor is taking a buyout. As the crime and courts editor, he shaped more words every day than anyone at the paper. On a personal note, he helped me get a foot in the door and I will always be grateful. We will miss very much.

After almost 10 years, this week is my last at the Chicago Tribune. My last day will be Friday. A decade ago, fresh out of Medill, I could never have imagined this. I wanted to be a writer; I wrote hundreds of stories for one of the country's biggest papers. It's bonkers.

Thinking about tonight’s State of the Union and remembering the time Toni Preckwinkle stood with Bill Clinton in 2016, when Chicago mag called her the city’s most powerful person. Amazing how far Preckwinkle’s star has fallen.

I can speak for both cities: Chicago & Baltimore. journalists are vital to ensuring that government is transparent & accountable. Both cities are fortunate to have some of the best reporters in this country & it's a privelege to work with them everyday
