@rosyna So are you saying that there can't/shouldn't be alternative fonts? -
@mjtsai correct. It would dramatically increase security attack surface area, it has very special handling, and it's changed multiple times. -
@mjtsai There is also not a SINGLE font creation tool that creates font files without at least one extremely MAJOR error in it. -
@mjtsai which made fixing security bugs in Apple's FontParsers extremely difficult. I often had to guess the intent behind a buggy table! -
@mjtsai If you just bail out with a fatal error, designers complain their precious, expensive but buggy fonts stop working. -
@mjtsai If it sounds like I'm bitter towards buggy fonts and buggy tools, it's because I am! Reading old font docs from 1993 is not fun!

@mjtsai Because AppleColorEmoji doesn't have to conform to a spec, Apple has been able to improve it greatly from OS to OS release. -
