This is beneath you. She is well-known, and she is a doctor. You may not have meant this to be a sneering “Dr. Biden” tweet, but it is.
One wonders: if the name had been more familiar or the itty bitty picture accompanying the byline had been of a white man, would @rossgarber have been so easily confused?
I have heard her interviewed a few times. She is very insightful and knowledgeable in the way she integrates data with sociological issues, including wrt Covid. I agree the NYT should have included a one-sentence bio to avoid confusion for people that conflate Dr. (PhD) with M.D.
But of course PhDs are only ones entitled to be called Doctor, for medics it's a courtesy term. And I know it is confusing.
Sociology is the crux of the issue here: the vaccine-hesitant & comportment in public space. Would you rather hear from a dermatologist or heart surgeon? Zeynep Tufekci is also not “someone named.” She’s the preeminent voice on the sociology of tech, including medical tech.
She made a lot of statements can had always given me the impression of the voice of a reasonable, educated person. Her opinions makes sense and isn't threatening.
Her “opinions” are facts based in science.
Now do David Brooks and Bret Stephens.
they have faces and mouths, and a reasonable reader might assume a brain is in there too
