    Keep themselves busy campaigning on Brexit in Parl and not pick an internal fight they can’t win may be answer to this

    The problem for the moderates is- what are they going to do? Resign?Smith’s sacking is a sign of Corbyn’s strength. He controls everything now. The members, who are much more pro-Europe, show no sign yet of revolting and this will hardly push them over the edge.

    Plenty of sugar beet farmers take a v different view from CLA & think they can do just fine if import tariffs scrapped:

    Good to hear Sugar Beet on Radio 4. There are 3500 beet farmers in the UK all represented by , all making ends meet w/o direct subsidy, and having had IMPORTS Protected by the EU until last year, and together making the UK among the most efficient producer in the world.

    And here's how the IFS did their sums saying we'd get a percentage point or so at best of savings out of scrapping tariffs

    Abolishing all tariffs could only reduce prices by 1.2% at most. That compares to at least 2% increase following the fall in the value of the pound post referendum. And has to be offset against higher trade costs. Report here . The calculation set out here:
