I'm coming from the place of someone who once had this series as a core part of my identity: you have to let this go. Not just not buying new merch, allowing it to occupy a hallowed space in our culture is amplifying the author's hate and cruelty against the trans community
I’m so tired of people saying they can’t let the series go, as if they’re the only ones who were impacted by it.
Plus there's a load of other series with similar themes. If you love magic school so much just get really into Little Witch Academia or Discworld or whatever Why be so attached to just one series that isn't even particularly unique
And Terry Pratchett was a supporter of trans people
The deathly hallows story was very important for my grieving process when I lost my brother. Letting go of that is hard. I still have HP themed stuff that I cnat afford to replace. And yet I gave up supporting the story in any shape.
Ppl talk like the rest of us dont get their deep connection and love for the series. We do. It's just that we prioritize trans lives.
What worries me the most is that they don't seem to see the problem with a piece of media having a stranglehold on their entire identity.
Harry Potter needs to go due to what it has brought. As far as all media, making a general statement like this doesn't sit well. People with severe depression or live in constant pain like me, different media can mean a hell of a lot. And sometimes help people keep going
god SAME this was the first series I read in English because I had read it so many times I practically knew it by heart. This was MY entryway into reading English fiction. I'm glad for that if nothing else but for the LOVE OF GOD. people just need to let GO now
but caring more about a story than trans lives isn't okay.
