I don’t pretend to have the answers, but I wish we would treat children not going to school like the crisis it is.

Literally everything else seems to be a priority. Protests. Campaign rallies. Bars. Restaurants. Travel. Shopping. Etc. But school parents are told to cross their fingers.

The system of haves and have nots right now is bad and getting worse. Families leaving public schools. At risk kids in crisis. Geography and politics informing decisions. This requires our attention.

On the of the big issues may be, what can anyone do? If you tried to throw money at the problem it wouldn't fix it -- not to mention the Republican won't fund such an approach. It should be talked about, but even better would be to actually come up with some kind of UBI.

My kids go to a private school, that has $ for lots of measures. We are very lucky. 2 measures i think can scale that may be affordable for public schools. 1. Start low density (50% by last name), A-K, then L-Z alternate days. 10 in person days / 4 weeks / kid 2. Wear masks

Yes. This is why it was important to have a national strategy in APRIL when we started going through this. "WHY CAN'T MY KIDS GO TO SCHOOL?!?!?!" Well, they wanted to open up everything in the South, and have a picnic over the Memorial Day weekend, so there you go.

I remember thinking in April, our focus needs to be schools in the fall. Allowing parents to get to work, socialization for kids, needed enrollment for colleges/private schools & business impact on college towns. Yet a rushed & premature opening of the country was prioritized

All things equal, would not have left. Hybrid made it a tricky call. 100% distance with no clear plan to get back in person made the decision for us.

Some school campuses are open in CA for a few and it costs a lot of $ (for first responders/essential workers kids). Trick is it is staffed by non-union child care providers. Teachers have to be convinced it is safe to come back. Many have notes from dr’s saying they won’t come.
