There's a lot of art in psychiatric prescribing, most of the meds have very similar effects on average, hard to work out what will work best for any individual person without trial and error.

Choice is probably far more influenced by social factors and prejudice than other areas of medicine. I feel like in middle class white people we sometimes give a little bit of quetiapine or aripiprazole, whereas we'd push harder with less privileged people.
