the homepage auto-selects an installer for what it thinks your language is, right? and it looks like the language is not part of the download name. https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/all/ … has a list of installers. I wonder if that's related?

Aha. Turned out one is for the UK version, while the other for the US version... Heh.
@mozthunderbird it would be nice if you: 1) used different names for different binaries, 2) provided digital signatures for the official binaries you publish. -
Not visible on the normal download page but there are signatures: https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/60.2.1/ …

This is not about me trying to reproduce the build from source independently and compare; Its's about noticing the hash of the installer for the same version, _as offered_ on the official website, has changed in the last weeks.
-
I understand. Only referencing the bug because I'm not sure they have published the details of the build environment anywhere. e.g. if existing versions get rebuilt, and what the toolchain is.

Open source is very insufficient in and by itself to provide meanigful security if noy subject to trustworthy socio-technical oversight and certification, as we are building into the Trustless Computing Certification Body.

If a user downloads your installer and the browser prompts to overwrite a file downloaded earlier, he will likely think it's the same file. One place this might make sense is if the installer itself is changed, but the payload isn't.

Can you please share both versions? I'd be interested to diff them...
