Some #FFXV thoughts: one of the weird things about modern gaming is this sense that a game is only a success if it is supported forever and ever. Obviously this game got tremendous post-launch support, and is still getting it now despite the changes announced today.
You could imagine a developer saying "but wait, cooking at a campfire and showing the characters playing mobile games together is not necessary. It isn't gameplay." Ah, but here's the thing: it contextualizes it.

By providing a context for the character's adventures (you must rest in order to get XP, and the meals you eat make this valuable), the "typical RPG activities" are framed in a pleasing way. It really does drive home this idea of good times with your best friends.

If games did not require such context, then we could just play these things in a text console window. I think FFXV nailed their "context." It made the final battles memorable because you grew to enjoy and really know the characters.

Ignis being the noble soul who sacrifices for the party, Prompto as the crazy wildcard with hidden depth, and Gladiolis as the strong fighter with a deep need to prove himself are things I *still* remember despite the game being two years old. That's great!
