UK Labour should try it. Vote for us and get £X trillion in extra health care, climate, education, child poverty action & affordable housing over a five year fixed term parliament and if you really don't like the debt level, vote for the Tories to take it all away.

Simple. Allow folk who decided they don't like Dem government funds/borrowing for action on health care, climate, education, child poverty, affordable housing, etc, after four years, vote in the GOP to take it away.

Do people know that the 1890 pandemic was likely caused by another coronavirus, OC43 (that was then novel?) Nowadays, no longer novel, it is one of the causes of the common cold. We're obviously not living in the OC43 pandemic since, and we won't live in a COVID pandemic forever.

Useful thread. The debate on left & right is fixated on situations that are passing into history. Migrations (by definition) are movable feasts.

Anglosphereophiles (if that’s a word) conflating classical liberal theory with dog-whistle white supremacy. Well argued comment by Kenan Malik.

Hey how about five seconds to say sorry for the randomised stream of coders’ consciousness & casual UX abuse that is working between Outlook flagged emails, Calendar, MS To Do, Cortana reminders, and WTF Microsoft Viva is going to do…

think of it as a kind of statue and then consider how the monuments of the few, of the richest and most powerful, get protected—while those of the many get erased

It will be interesting to find out where Shia Iran now sits in all this, given that the Taliban are in the ascendant for now, and the Shia Hazaras. about a fifth of the population, long time victims of Sunni Taliban attacks, are not prominent in the emerging Taliban government.

Massoud's son Ahmad, a Sandhurst graduate of all things, has tried to rally forces against the Taliban this time around, with apparent limited success.

Thinking back to my last trip to Afghanistan in 2009. The Iranians were then funding a giant shrine to Ahmed Shah Massoud in the beautiful Pansjhir Valley to curry favour with communities who had resisted Russian & the Taliban forces before 9/11.
