    As an intern (later volunteer) for a Public Defender's office in the Midwest around 2012, I worked almost exclusively on cases involving ICE. Heard dozens of first-hand accounts of how these institutions and systems worked together.

    No longer engaging with folks that are all about abolishing ICE but don't have the same energy when it comes to Prisons or police. Why? 1.) you likely don't understand how these systems are connected (one depends on the other). 2.) a red flag for anti-Blackness.

    See also: a history of theories of crime that make racist pseudoscientific claims about origins of criminal behavior, and yet influence criminal law policy. Thank you for the reminder. As a white researcher, been thinking about this a lot recently.
