Dude was merely *satirizing* the abject hopelessness of systemically enforced poverty from his lofty perch among the petite bourgeoisie who like to cosplay "Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous" in their abundant spare time. So we're cool, right? No?
I’m neither 1% nor minimum wage. I am an Ontario voter who believes fairness and equality are deep seeded Canadian values worth protecting from those who begrudge the less fortunate from having a small amount more. It’s not satire it’s cruel to joke about the misfortune of others
Totally agree...sad reality is that politicians work to get into office to stay in office so they can line their pockets and those around them. Wasn't too long ago Rocco was a mayoral candidate...now he is reaping rewards... #ResponsibleGovernmentNeeded
I think your post is unfair to politicians. For some, it is truly about serving the public and trying to improve the lives of fellow citizens.
You are right...I shouldn't have broad-brushed all. Just remember, federally, it is 7 years...that is all they have to be in office to get a guaranteed pension for life...Term limits are needed to get away from career politicians and to get new blood...
Sarcasm is difficult to determine on Twitter Rocco. If you don’t think people will get the “joke”...don’t do the post.
I think Rocco is a genuinely good and decent man. I don’t believe he was disparaging people with his tweet—although his humour/tone was interpreted negatively by some. Yet another example of how Twitter’s a poor forum for discussion & a place where harsh judgment is immediate.
A good and decent man would support a living wage for workers.
I support that.
Rocco doesn’t.
I don’t think it offended so much as showed people who you really are what with your “I’m a one percenter, let the peasants eat cake!” attitude. As they say, when people show you who they really are, believe them.pic.twitter.com/vHCZCgDW4H
Not to mention, I don’t even think you actually *are* the 1%, are you? Either way, this little blip is now on your Wikipedia page. Oopsie.pic.twitter.com/A1DppeXPwn
The apology is appreciated. But I can’t think for the life of me how deliberately laughing at all those who made you what you are, especially after you made their lives harder, is satirical. Truth is you are both arrogant and condescending; a very rare double.
Honestly, how on earth did you expect it would be perceived? The snobbery is mind boggling.
So it was perceived exactly as it was intended. The OED defines “satirical” as “sarcastic, critical, and mocking of another’s weaknesses” #schmuck
