I pushed through the plague to hit that damn “release” button and make sure we came out on time!
I’m proud of Pro Philosopher. It’s worth every dark dev ritual we had to perform to revive it after the murder of flash.
Check it out! It free!!

People are legitimately concerned that AI will produce pictures that people will assume are real, but another possibly equal concern is that now everyone thinks they're an expert at spotting fake AI photos and I'm seeing more and more accusations of fakery aimed at legit photos

The more I learn about Afon, the less I feel like I understand what he is.

I did a new comic, and it only took me two months!

Update: I bought a new cable (turns out searching for the type of drive + cable worked) and I have the backups I need! Now I can complete a project 6+ years in the making!

The most likely place to have backups is an external drive that I used years ago. I know where the drive is, but it uses a weird cable to connect to USB and I don't know where the cable is or what to search for to get a new one.
I'll find it somehow. Eventually.

Realized that the backups I thought I saved of a project I completed half of before my transition and mean to go back to now are not where I thought they were. I very much hope I can find them.
I have copies of the project, but not in a form I can edit.

For someone with my mental health history, that's extraordinary. I have more hope for my future than I ever did before.
Will I ever regret my surgery? Maybe! I can't predict the future. But for now, the improvement is vast. My life is better than it was at the start of 2023.

Top surgery is, without any exaggeration, the single most effective thing I have ever done for my mental health. In the last month+, my mood has been almost at the level of a person without a clinical depression diagnosis.

I haven't talked about it on Twitter yet, but I had top surgery in late January. My level of distress over my chest was minor compared to what some trans men describe, but I still thought top surgery would benefit me.

What transphobes don't want to admit is that they just care more about eliminating the suffering of cis people than alleviating the suffering of trans people. A single cis person suffering is worth thousands of trans people suffering.

However, if we prioritize eliminating all possible regret over GETTING gender affirming surgery, that means we necessarily INCREASE the suffering of people who WANT gender affirming surgery and can't get it.
1
Show this thread
The decision to pursue any kind of gender affirming surgery is extremely personal, and almost everyone who makes that decision is happy they made it. A minority are not, and they deserve our support.

A) In a trans-accepting society, that wouldn't be true.
B) Trans people don't get a choice! If you're trans, you're better off socially and/or medically transitioning in whatever combination works best for you, because being cis isn't an option.
1
Show this thread
The reason that trans people are held to different standards is that cis people believe transitioning is inherently a negative outcome. That a person is always better off being cis than being trans.

Informed consent means that a doctor explains all risks and likely outcomes of the procedure, and the patient acknowledges those risks. One risk is potential regret! Adults make irreversible decisions that they might regret all the time.

No one shows up at a doctor's office requesting an elective surgical procedure and receives it the next day. There is no reason to prevent adults from receiving whatever medical treatments, including surgeries, that they want, under an informed consent model.

When it comes to gender affirming surgery, it's reasonable to apply the similar standards of care that are applied to other elective procedures. Cis women who want breast reductions and trans men who want mastectomies should each have access to the care that they want.

However, the ONLY way to guarantee that no one will ever regret a surgery is to prevent that surgery from ever being performed. As long as some people get a surgery, some (hopefully small) number of people will regret it.

At first glance, that seems reasonable! A person going through a surgical procedure and coming out the other side unhappy with a permanent change to their body suffers tremendously, and anyone with any compassion would want to prevent further people from suffering that way.

Supposed moderates make it clear that they believe if even one person regrets an irreversible surgery, that is an unacceptable outcome.

Do store owners stock super expensive versions of things just so you'll be more likely to buy the still pretty expensive version and feel like at least you're not spending as much as you could be?

Video game hot take: A lot of games add voice acting but don't benefit from it. I read faster than the actors speak and waiting for the actor to finish interrupts my flow.
