, I'ma teacher. I left grad. school 26 yrs ago w/$60,000 in student debt. I have been trying to pay back this loan for 26 years, often using the IBR option. My loan debt has grown to $297,000! No joke! This is the result of capitalized & accruing interest. Please help.

You absolutely should qualify for Public Service Student Loan Forgiveness. Ten years of on time payments and ten years of public service in education. Go to your account at FedLoans to grab the paperwork for completion then submission.

This sounds impossible unless you put the loans into forbearance for some number of years. Or were they PLUS loans? Clearly, not subsidized loans.

I am a teacher, I paid for undergrad as I went. It took me longer than traditional students. My school district is paying for graduate work. I have 0 debt. You chose your path.

…..when I was 16 my father broke the news to me that he couldn’t afford to send me to college. We looked at alternatives. I joined the USMC, got my Bachelors degree, and have enjoyed a long healthy career. Not of a mind now to pay for others poor decisions.

Obviously some people didn’t research their major to see if they will start off with a decent salary. If you going to major in something something like social work you should know that you aren’t going to make much paying off student loans
