Stephen Malkmus in Greenpoint, 20 years ago tonight, 12/7/2002, Saturday night at Warsaw with the Jicks, playing all these great “Pig Lib” songs nobody knew yet, plus “Third Rate Romance.” One of those gigs you can still hear in your bones 20 years later.

“Let’s hope it comes back to the stage soon, because this deserves to run onstage for years to come. It should sweep the Tony Awards, especially if they create a new category for ‘Best Musical To Namecheck Geddy Lee and Donna Del Verona.’” YES

I was expecting the Pavement musical "Slanted! Enchanted" to be the weirdest theater experience ever... but nothing prepared me for how beautifully insane it is & I loved every minute rollingstone.com/music/music-li

Christine McVie was an oasis of sanity in Fleetwood Mac's dysfunctional family. Rob Sheffield pays tribute to the singer-songwriter, who turned out so many classics that you can spend years catching up with her greatness.

Fly on forever, songbird. My tribute to Christine McVie, the wise big sister in Fleetwood Mac. The sane, stable member of rock’s most insane, unstable band, the crew that kept breaking up for 50 years. The spirit of rock & roll sisterhood. What a loss.

It was who showed the world how much magic a 3-minute pop single could do. His new 7" Singles Box is a celebration of his unique genius. It's a real joy for me to write the introductory essay. Like the man said: The wonder of it all, baby.

What's the real origin of "Yellow Submarine"? Is "And Your Bird Can Sing" really about Frank Sinatra's penis? Why is the novel in "Paperback Writer"...based on another novel? + break down the mysteries of The Beatles' 'Revolver.' ⬇️

NEW: A Thanksgiving gift from me and : a deep dive on the Beatles’ ‘Revolver,’ looking at every track, including unearthed outtakes (and ‘Paperback Writer’/‘Rain’). Rob even indulges my obsession with the ‘And Your Bird Can Sing’ Sinatra theory

I wrote an essay for about how "Eleanor Rigby" remains a shocking piece of art — no matter how many times you've heard it, it's worth coming to it with fresh ears. (And the sublime, remixed 'Revolver' provides a way to do just that!)

Nobody's ever understood the power of the pop single like Paul McCartney. He defines the art form. Nobody has his genius for getting it all—a sound, a feeling, a way of life—into 7 inches of vinyl. A real joy for me to write the essay for this box. A life story in 80 singles.

'Meet Me in the Bathroom' revisits the moment when the Strokes, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and their insane NYC peers made rock dangerous again. @robsheff and@lizzydgoodman on how the doc recaptures the moment—and why it's more vital than ever. trib.al/tIf1dez

I've been reading Rob's writing since before I moved to New York. The fact that we became friends is still a miracle to me - THE Rob Sheffield, arguing with me about Infidels!? Thank you, New York, forever, for making such things possible.

I talked with the brilliant @lizzydgoodman about "Meet Me In The Bathroom," the great new doc based on her classic book. We break down the fast times & bizarrely long afterlife of the NYC rock renaissance of the 2000s, & why that moment resonates now. rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv-m

Friends, it’s hard to put the universe into language and into a short message, but She passed away last night, surrounded by family and love, including yours. Keep her name close and sacred. Share this moment with someone who needs you. Love is indeed the most important thing.
