fact check: Trump said “we are restoring our nation's manufacturing might.” The U.S. manufacturing sector actually slid into a decline last year, with 12,000 jobs lost in December compared to the month before, notes our trade reporter .

I believe Democrats are upset that Trump seems to be ignoring that Obama inherited an economic collapse and Trump inherited a steady, ongoing expansion.

Again: the big risk of what happened in Iowa is not that the final outcome will be wrong; that's very unlikely given the paper records at precincts. The big risk is that it will appear "rigged" and discourage people from voting. How it's handled and reported now is critical. 1/

Great chart showing how changing US demograpics have make it harder to achieve fast GDP growth.

This is why the Obama administration was talking about a "new normal" for the US economy. And so far it looks like they were right.

Same story with unemployment rates. His talking point changed. The inherited trend, not so much.

In advance of tonight's , where POTUS will try to take credit for the state of the economy, check out the trend in the # of U.S. jobs (blue) and in POTUS's statements (green). POTUS changed his talking point. The job growth trend, not so much.

The economy continues to grow at about 2%, well below Trump's goal of 3%. Will AI stimulate this economy? Not any time soon, according to my article via

In Australia, elections are run by a publicly-funded non-partisan electoral commission, and there are no app malfunctions, butterfly ballots, gerrymandering, racialized purges of the voter rolls, nor long lines even though everyone votes. Yields high public trust in the process.
