    Big philanthropy is an exercise of power by the wealthy that is unaccountable, low on transparency, donor-directed, perpetual, and generously tax advantaged. More in my book -- Just Giving -- about the relationship between philanthropy and democracy.

    The average tax on income and investments is 15.8%; the average tax on inheritances is 2.1%. This proposal to tax inherited $ the same as earned $ (and end the loopholes) is as simple as it is logical.
