We've seen similar results here in Maui with T-Mo's 4G LTE occasionally beating T-Mo 5G on throughput speeds.

I have a loaner M1000 and 8800 too, and I've been trying to do that comparison. Emphasis on "trying"--the 5G signal is super-scarce on the ground in D.C.
