I'm trying to get a cheap flight with Spirit but the carry on is as much as the flight, lol. Anyone know cheap/pretty affordable flights that have a free carryon?

You've got your main airlines that allow carryon (Delta for ATL) or your budget airlines that allow only what you pay for. You could probably fly Spirit with your personal item that would fit enough for a weekend trip and not need a carryon
Wait, what defines a "personal item"? All I really need is one backpack with my clothes, hygiene stuff and controller. Is that considered a personal item?

Yes bookbags are considered personal items as long as they fit under the seat in front of you which it should
