I think we underestimate the effects of ego and competitiveness in salary negotiations. At these levels, wanting the biggest contract or the highest aav (in the league or on the team) goes a long way, I think, in motivating players to get the most they can.

From a general fans’ standpoint, any salary that high means higher priced tickets and tv contracts. (Higher cable /RSN fees) From a fan of a specific team, That’s less money to sign other players.
