I'd bet the majority of today's television and movie actors are more attractive than >95% of persons in human history ever met. That's a fiction in itself.

It's at least amusing that it's framed as "lose ability to tell fact from fiction". Back then, didn't people believe in ghosts, witches, or whatever? Novels at made at most a ~1% dent in people's ability to tell fact from fiction.
