I want to see simulated emergency scenarios where candidates are in situation rooms, trying to integrate complex, partly unreliable information in real time, and making tough decisions given ethically troubling trade-offs. Same scenarios, filmed separately for each candidate.

One easy thing to do now would be to cut off participants' microphones when they're not supposed to be talking, so that it doesn't become a contest of who's the best at interrupting (and most willing to do it).

Also, as much as experts have their flaws, I'd rather have experts asking questions than TV journalists
