Instead of inheriting a rule package (vacations, hiring, travel, etc) from another firm, most new firms make up a new package as they grow. Such rules rot & collect cruft, but low firm lifespans limit damage. But why not inherit a well-honed package from the start?

The trite answer "every family is different" seems convincing considering the high interaction surface area between individuals. Maybe the same is true for companies?
