"evidence from neuroscience shows that in fact what’s 'going on' in anyone’s mind is not decision about what to do in the light of beliefs & desire, but rather a series of neural circuitry firings." I'm not yet convinced that these are incompatible views.http://time.com/5418740/history-neuroscience/ …

I'd be a lot more resolute on this one: these are perfectly compatible views. Without a doubt.

Malcomb Gladwell did a very interesting Podcast on this subject called "Free Brian Williams". Highly recommended.

They're not entirely. The more a pathway is used the easier it becomes to use it until eventually that path is used nearly by default. It's the basis behind learned phobias, ptsd, acid flashbacks, and learning theory in general

The narrative that built the pathway remains in justification of the conclusion it supports until the conclusion is assimilated as natural consequence. Like how you might need a reason (C*D)=10 until the pathway is fully built until C & D are such in both implicate and quantity

I’ve never understood why people view our own subconscious actions as somehow a separate entity from the self. They are as much a part of who we are as any conscious act.
