They're not entirely. The more a pathway is used the easier it becomes to use it until eventually that path is used nearly by default. It's the basis behind learned phobias, ptsd, acid flashbacks, and learning theory in general

The narrative that built the pathway remains in justification of the conclusion it supports until the conclusion is assimilated as natural consequence. Like how you might need a reason (C*D)=10 until the pathway is fully built until C & D are such in both implicate and quantity
