There is a whole worthwhile book on this by Clarke (1999) https://www.amazon.com/Mission-Improbable-Fantasy-Documents-Disaster/dp/0226109410/ref=sr_1_6?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1540250978&sr=1-6 …pic.twitter.com/MNrAYXrr24

As I said yesterday, the literature on planning under deep uncertainty is more useful than the approaches being discussed. A recent paper by
@jan_kwakkel on applying this to (one type of) engineering is here: http://orbit.dtu.dk/en/publications/id(504e2369-bbf7-4584-9e62-691bb7cf02dd).html … (A lot of his other work is also relevant.)pic.twitter.com/VWND2CJ0WC

Or to put it another way, to have a controlled and stable starting point for your model to begin the self-correction process

I still occasionally consult your list of quotations. It is a good collection! Thanks

Another good one on focus: "A fool's voice is known by many words." Ecclesiastes 5:3.

Yeah I have found my best times came from looking ahead, but saving all the energy for the important moments. Also too much preparation makes things uninteresting for me. I like some form of difficulty in the moment.
